A
first walk of 1800 km
At last Jacques feels totally alive and capable of accomplishing all his
projects, even the most eccentric. One of his most cherished dreams is to
cross Canada on foot.
Of course, such a journey needs serious preparation. He decided to warm
up for the big event by crossing the province of Quebec on foot in order
to increase his muscle tone and gain more experience in such a type of adventure.
Therefore, in the summer of 97, he walked across Quebec for a total of 1
800 km. His wife, Dorothy, decided to accompany him along with their husky
dog Mousse.
They left Gaspé on the July 1 and reached St-Bruno-de-Guigues, Jacques'
hometown in Temiscamingue, on September 30. |

That
summer adventure on the roads of Quebec was an amazing experience.
Certain people had qualms about demanding so much of the body ( 5
to 7 walking hours each day for 2 months) and thought this would take
its toll and would even be harmful. It turned out, however, that the
more he walked, the more in shape he became, both physically and emotionally.
Even Dorothy, who already had an excellent health to start with, saw
an improvement in her general condition. They easily succeeded in
maintaining their previously-established itinerary and finished their
trip feeling more alive and enthusiastic than they had ever felt. |
